Sentenced to Life Imprisonment
Another victory for the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Regional Office 10 for the final judgment of the Criminal Case No. 2011-1109 entitled Pp vs. Sammy Yusop y Muhammad for violation of Section 5, Article II of RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
It was known that the biggest item (methamphetamine hydrochloride popularly known as shabu) weighing 1.5 kilograms amounting to Fifteen (15) million pesos was interdicted by the operatives of PDEA 10 last Nov. 21, 2011 at the premises of SM Department Store located at Upper Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City and so with the vehicle (Toyota Hi-Ace van) that was used to transport the illegal drugs to nearby cities and provinces was ordered by the court to be confiscated and forfeited in favor of the Government to be disposed in accordance with the law. This is one of the few sensational cases that took less than 3 months for the final verdict of the accused by the Department of Justice in Region 10.
The decision was signed by Hon. Judge Arthur L. Abundiente of Branch 25, Regional Trial Court of Misamis Oriental dated February 8, 2012 and promulgated on February 9, 2012 who found the accused, SAMMY YUSOP y MUHAMMAD GUILTY BEYOND REASONABLE DOUBT of the crime defined and penalized under Section 5, Article II of RA 9165 and sentenced him to Life Imprisonment and to pay a fine in the amount of Five Hundred Thousand (Php 500,000.00) Pesos.(PDEA10)
