Based on the DSWD report, Jesus Noel Bienvinida, 44, single and formerly staying in Acacia St., Barangay Carmen, took his life in the morning of Wednesday, February 22, 2012.
Daisy Babiera, focal person for Camp Management and Coordination Cluster of DSWD-10, said the DSWD will continue to conduct psycho-social activities and other therapeutic activities to the IDPs, in close coordination with the Department of Health which is the lead agency in conducting the said intervention activities.
Babiera also stressed the importance of expanding and strengthening partnership between the DSWD and religious groups and other faith-based organizations in launching activities that will boost the spiritual status of IDPs.
Babiera went to the temporary shelter of Bienvinida yesterday and found out that the victim was depressed because he has no work to earn for a living.
“The victim was seemingly depressed of his present condition having no means of living at present. Furthermore, the need to avail the psychiatric services may have been overlooked since he already had hallucinations of seeing scenarios associated to flashflood the night prior to the incident,” she said.
She also found out that Bienvinida has two children with his former live-in partner and with this, the DSWD yesterday provided counseling to the grieving family of victim.
The City Social Welfare and Development Office here also promised to extend help, defraying the cost of funeral services, to the family of the victim.
The DSWD assures the public of their continued coordination with the IDPs in the evacuation camps and temporary shelters to attend to their needs, not only on relief goods and shelter, but including to their emotional conditions.
Meanwhile, with the help of various non-governmental organizations, DSWD-10 will erect more permanent houses for the internally displaced families temporarily staying inside evacuation camps and transitory shelters here and Iligan City.
As of February 22, 2012, the Shelter Cluster reported 5,197 house and lot packages already in the works in order to accommodate the housing need of all Tropical Storm Sendong survivors.
Of the number, 1,517 units are quadruplex and raw houses constructed in Calaanan Phase III, Canitoan village here.
As of this moment, there are 1,808 families staying in evacuation centers in this city while another 1,621 families are in the transitory shelters.
This means that there are enough permanent houses for the displaced families living in evacuation centers and transitory shelters.
However, validation is still on-going to ensure the rightful beneficiaries will be given the house and lot grants.
The validation is based on the qualifications approved by the Local Inter-Agency Committee, led by the local government unit of this city. (Oliver Badel Inodeo/DSWD10)
