PNP PRO-10 Completes Disaster Preparedness Trainors Training

Following the devastation brought about by Tropical Storm Sendong affecting two (2) major cities in Northern Mindanao last December, Police Regional Office 10 completed the training of rescue teams consisting of police officers from the different provinces in the region and the cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan. Members of the selected Barangay Peace Action Teams (BPAT) from the two (2) cities and the province of Bukidnon were among those who completed the trainors training which openned on February 6, 2012 at PRO-10 Multipurpose Hall, Camp Alagar, Cagayan de Oro City.

Six (6) police officers from the national headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City facilitated the conduct of the 6-day training. PSUPT NIÑO D RABAYA, one of the training staff, stated that there were a total of 94 participants, of which 21 are from the BPAT. They are now ready and qualified to re-echo their acquired skills to their respective units and barangays.

Participants were able to learn the basic skills of knot tying, rappelling, rescue and evacuation, first aid and the handling of rescue boats. Participating rescue teams compete with each other during the drills they made at the parade ground of PRO-10 before the course was formally closed on February 11, 2012.

House Rep. Bambi Emano of the 2nd District of Misamis Oriental was the keynote speaker during the closing of the course. He congratulated the graduates, and expressed the need to equip our police officers and barangay peacekeepers with the skills and techniques in saving the lives of victims during times of calamities. PCSUPT CATALINO B RODRIGUEZ, Deputy Regional Director for Administration, likewise extended his congratulatory message to the graduating participants, but jokingly called on the graduates not to use their acquired skills in the future for it would have meant that a disaster has taken place.

PCSupt. Catalino B. Rodriguez Jr, Deputy Regional Director for Administration, formally declares the six-day Disaster Preparedness Trainers Training open, Feb. 6, 2012. (PRO-10)
