A total of Php1.04 billion in damages to 28 public school buildings have been noted in region 10 due to Typhoon Sendong, last year.
Eight (8) of these school buildings with damages amounting to Php261.10M were in the First Congressional District of Cagayan de Oro (CDO) while six (6) others amounting to Php556.85M were in the 2nd District of the city.
Likewise, 14 of these school buildings with damages amounting to Php222.33M were in the 2ndCongresional District of Lanao del Norte.
Data gathered by the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC), in the region, show that all the school buildings in CDO Districts 1 & 2 had damaged walls, windows, doors, & partitions and their corresponding amount of damage are as follows:
CDO District 1 - Balulang Elementary School (ES), Php4.2M, Consolacion ES, Php4.35M, Canitoan ES, Php2.4M, Iponan ES, Php2.85M, Macanhan ES, Php3.3M, Pagatpat ES, Php1.8M, Bonbon ES, Php2.55M, and North City Central School, Php4.65M.
CDO District 2 - Cagayan de Oro National High School (NHS), Balulang Annex, Php800,000, Iponan NHS, Php2.4M, Bulua NHS, PHP6.0M, Carmen NHS, Php5.4M, Angeles Sister NHS in Consolacion, Php2.25M.
Although the Bonbon NHS also suffered the same condition, no amount of damage have been reported, as of press time.
In Lanao del Norte District 2, the following nature and amount of damage were noted: Totally washed out - Bayug ES, Php10.20M, and Mandulog ES, Php5.77M.
Severely damaged - Iligan City East High School (ICEHS), Hinaplanon Annex, Php1.392M, ICEHS Santiago Annex, Php1.886M, Bagong Silang ES, Php1.374M, Cabili Village ES, Php3.006M, Tu NHS, Digkilaan Annex, Php695,000, Iligan City East Central School, Php2.962M, and Northeast II B Central School, Php1.13M.
Severely flooded- Iligan City NHS, Tambacan Annex, Php1.003M, Villaverde ES, Php54,000, Benito S. Ong Memorial ES, Php326,000, Kapisahan ES, Php294,300, and Pugaan ES, Php120,000. (Rutchie Cabahug-Aguhob/PIA)
