The S Factor By Susan Palmes-Dennis

"Ingrato"

It doesn’t take one to be genius to know that Congressman Benjo Benaldo is flip-flopping on his decision to ink the great complaint for 2011. Chances he might even disown and not recognize his signature.

When I heard that first district congressman Benjo signed the impeachment complaint against Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona I was astounded. Why? Because I could not believe that he can do it against his former benefactor. He is close to the Arroyo family according to his accounts and the CJ is believed to be the man of the past president at the Supreme Court. I told myself in no way Benjo can forsake the family or he is just kidding idly. But before I can collect my unspoken thoughts to words he alleged he was coerced to sign.

Well, aside from being surprised of his signature I was happy that he found his pants again contrary to the rumors circulating that he lost it when he became a member of the elite rubber stamp at the city council. Of course, I do not believe these rumors and innuendos his only mistake that fuelled these talks was his constant chairmanship of the pageant committee. But actually there is nothing wrong with it, as I still believe he is only “fashionable”

It is a public knowledge that impeachment is a political procedure. It is not a justiciable issue. It is a game played by the numbers. But even then like anybody else I want Benjo to be a man to admit the signature. What’s wrong if he signed because he believed it is the proper thing to do; and he is aware that what he signs he reads and the effects it gives. That he signed after a soul searching; he is a principle man, and what he did is for the country. But to say that he was pressured he must be joking, it tell a character of a person.

With these observations, I don’t know if he knows that what he signs is part of the document for the prosecution to present before the senate acting as court. I don’t know if he knows that what he signed was charges on culpable violation of the constitution, betrayal of public trust and non-filing of statement of assets and liabilities among others. And if he answers no to any because he was given a thousands of Ninoy Aquino and promise for notice of allotment then he must have lost his pants again.

I want my congressman to be strong and not bullied by anybody much less by a pork barrel after all his work is to legislate. What could prevent him to sign other documents selling the soul of his constituents with this flip-flopping attitude? Call it bad taste and too much politicking. Never mind gratitude most politicians are “ingrates” anyway.

If the signature is for the pork barrel then give it all to the victims of Sendong.
